In the summer of 2019 I was invited, along with five other photographers, by photographer and photobook enthusiast Paul Gotts to contribute images to a collaborative photobook. The brief was simply to respond to the theme of ‘Brand New Day’.
To me the idea of the ‘brand new day’ means a fresh world of possibilities, as yet unsullied by the details of reality. Poignantly, this makes it a very fleeting sensation – the day is only really brand new before you open your eyes.
Here I’ve used lensless photography to capture and stretch out that sense of rebirth and possibility you feel between sleeping and waking.
