The portrait subjects here were members of a ‘nostalgia singalong’ group called Musical Memories. The elderly participants have varying degrees of cognitive decline. Remembering forms as important a part of the activity as singing.
By combining a moment of remembering with the shape of the sound wave of the song being sung, I aimed to evoke the sensation of the song being the trigger for a memory, whether happy or more contemplative.
